The two most common rules for dealers are standing on all 17s and hitting for soft 17s. The most common blackjack rule is dealer standing on hands with a total of 17. In such blackjack rule, the dealer will continue to draw cards until dealer has a total of 17 or more. For example the dealer's card is jack (that is counted as ten) and a two - that total to 12 - the dealer will continue to pick up more cards. If the total is 19 - when the dealer has a king and nine - dealer will stand. The picking of more cards will continue as long as the dealer has not reached 17 yet.
The other blackjack rule for the dealer is to hit on soft 17. A number of casinos are using this rule variation. When dealers are to hit on soft 17, they will stand when they have a blackjack hand of 18 or higher. The dealer is also asked to stand with hard 17. The advantage to the player is reduced while such rule is agreeable to the house because of the increase advantage.
